Arte contemporanea dal dopoguerra alla fine del XX secolo Artisti, parole, immagini dal 1960 al 1968

Curated by Giorgina Bertolino e Irene Calderoni
Villa Remmert, Ciriè (Italy)
22 September 2007 - 13 January 2008

The review exhibition Appunti. Arte contemporanea dal dopoguerra alla fine del XX secolo, curated by Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, is the second exhibition in the series and, after the first show about the 50s, tackles the following decade, trying to recreate it through some of the works that changed the visual language of those years.
Artisti, parole, immagini dal 1960 al 1968 presents the works of 20 artists: the sculptures of Arman, Enrico Baj, Yves Klein, Sol Le Witt, Bruno Munari, Louise Nevelson and Daniel Spoerri, the painted works of Enrico Castellani, Joseph Kosuth, Piero Manzoni, Mimmo Rotella, Mario Schifano, Ben Vautier and Andy Warhol. The photographs of Ugo Mulas and Gianfranco Gorgoni, and the films of Andy Warhol and of the Fluxus group, which mark the exhibiting path, offering an account of the epoch that reveals a completely new relationship between the work of art and its documentation.
The path ends with a sculpture by Alighiero Boetti and the painted works of Giulio Paolini and Michelangelo Pistoletto, which heralded the evolution of the following decade.
“In Villa Remmert, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo intends to offer a reconstruction of that part of contemporary artistic production that is already treated as historical. Only by looking at the past can we come to terms with today's art world and imagine its future. The art of our time is clearly the result of an evolution that has taken the shape of the different historical contexts that have prevailed over time, very often becoming a mirror of these”.
(Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo)
The communicative approach of the exhibition, based on a careful research of works and sources, is reinforced by a series of four lectures, intended as occasions for further exploration and as encounters with the public. Taking place in a dedicated room inside the Villa, the lectures will use images and readings to recreate the artistic and cultural milieu of the 1960s. The lectures will be held by art and literature historians and are viewed as an integral part of the exhibition. They will be following each other throughout the entire exhibiting time, so that the public is given a chance to participate in an informational tour that leads them step by step towards the most recent research trends.
