Sandretto Re Rebaudengo
The Direction des Affaires Culturelles of the Principality of Monaco in collaboration with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, presents the exhibition Glowbowl, an exhibition of major works from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection at the Salle Quai Antoine 1er, Monaco.Curated by Francesco Bonami and Martine Fresia, the exhibition entitled Glowbowl stages a line up of contemporary art’s most important witnesses, some of the world’s key players renowned for bringing out strong feelings of love, hate, desire and fantasy through their powerful works of art. “The World has become one big goldfish bowl and Globalisation the water that holds our existence.” Quotes Francesco Bonami. “The metropolises have taken over the urban landscape and their glowing lights can be seen from far and wide. Contemporary art is the spoken language of this luminous bowl, today’s artists are stars and their means of expression no longer only belongs to art but also to the world of communication, advertising, television and film, spilling into the horizontal, global flow of today.” Glowbowl features major works from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo contemporary art collection, which clearly reflects the art scene of the last two decades. “My initial approach to art was as a collector in the early nineties. Then, in 1995, I set up the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudegno to promote young artists from Italy and abroad”, explains Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Founder and President of the contemporary art foundation which bears her name. “I’ve never wanted to keep my collection hidden away in storage and I hope to reveal an extremely meaningful part of the Collection with this exhibition, giving the public the chance to view works of art that have made history over the past twenty-five years.” The exhibition is installed at the portside venue Salle Quai Antoine 1er in Monaco and features 50 mixed media works by 35 world renowned artists. The works in the exhibition range in media from installation, photography, painting and sculpture, as well as a video section. The exhibiting artists are Pawel Althamer, Matthew Barney, Vanessa Beecroft, Lina Bertucci, Glenn Brown, Maurizio Cattelan, Thomas Demand, Berline De Bruyckere, Flavio Favelli, Fischli & Weiss, Katharina Fritsch, Giuseppe Gabellone, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Douglas Gordon, Carsten Holler, Thomas Hirschhorn, Damien Hirst, Peter Land, Sharon Lockhart, Sarah Lucas, Shirin Neshat, Catherine Opie, Gabriel Orozco, Paul Pfeiffer, Richard Prince, Charles Ray, Anri Sala, Cindy Sherman, Yinka Shonibare, Thomas Struth, Fiona Tan, Rosemarie Trockel, Piotr Uklansky, Inez van Lamsweerde with Philippe Parreno, Jeff Wall.
