The exhibition Fuori Pista is presented by The Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, the Susa Val Susa Rotary Club and Torino San Carlo, in collaboration with the Distretto Rotary 2030, Sauze d’Oulx local Authorities, Napapijri and Sestrieres S.p.A. The exhibition, held during the 2006 Winter Olympic Games at Chalet Mollino, the private mountain cabin of legendary Italian architect and designer Carlo Mollino, situated at an altitude of 2,274 metres in the Olympic resort Sauze d’ Oulx.
The chalet project further values Carlo Mollino’s architectural achievement through a group exhibition of works by emerging, cutting-edge Italian and international artists who - like Mollino in his day - are revolutionising creativity to get innovative results.
The exhibition is divided in two sections: outside the chalet, the artist Paola Pivi presents a 9x12 metre image on PVC illustrating two quasi-lifesize zebras in an uncanny high-mountain context. The artist Patrick Tuttofuoco presents an installation outside the chalet entitled Olympic and made up of five illuminated circles symbolising the meeting-point of different energies, just like the intersection of the five Olympic circles. Marco de Luca also intervenes with a site-specific installation - a mirror glass table in the shape of Lake Nero - on the first floor terrace.
Indoors, on the first floor, the Californian artist Doug Aitken shows his video work Thaw, which accompanies us on an exploration of the territories and seas of the Antarctic Circle, along with Swedish artist Annika Larsson and her video entitled hockey, featuring quite an impressive hockey match in a stadium that is completely empty. The video work Procession, is presented by the New York artist Jordan Wolfson – a short film of downhill skiers shown in slow and fast motion with background music by Patrick Grant and, lastly, the video Impronte (footprints) is presented by Elena Arzuffi.
