Nadia Comaneci, un progetto dell'artista Laura Matei
Curated by Emanuela De Cecco
Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin
18 May - 15 December 2004

Pursuing its mission of fostering and promoting the spread of contemporary art, as well as offering support to young artists, Associazione Amici della Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo presents a project by Laura Matei, entirely devoted to the gymnast, Nadia Comaneci.
The exhibition is a tribute to the performances of the Roumanian gymnast who went down in history for the perfection of her movements at the Olympic Games of Montreal in 1976.
The work consists in a series of large-size photos on the side walls and an installation comprised of four transparent figurines arranged along the central axis of the room, each resting on a pile of pillows. Their balance is made unstable by the ball of wool that forms their basis.
The exhibition becomes a metaphor for the perception of memories, of moments and images that grow bigger over time, migrating from personal to collective memory. It is the fine balance that separates perfection from error, memory from oblivion.
