Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Turin
28 September 1996 – 3 November 1996
The concept of Campo 6 is focused on the idea of an ideal village in which sixteen artists, coming from ten countries, establish a dialogue respectful of their identities and that one of the visitors. The exhibition deals with the notion of art as a communication medium endowed of a human dimension embedded in our existence linked as it is both to a personal space and to the globality of public exchanges (home, city, state, nation, the world).
Each participating artist is asked to show both a work for the exhibition, using different media from sculpture to video, photography, design and site specific installations, as well as a project to be completed at a later time. These two phases of the exhibition will allow the audience to better understand the creative urge of the artist and at the same time the future projection of his/her practice.
There is neither unique nor whole perspective in contemporary language – Bonami states – each exhibition is an attempt to recompose a fragmented vision of reality by a curator who interprets the artist’s vision.
The aim of Campo 6 is to make more and more visible the base around which new projections will hook on creating that very spiral which is the central idea of this exhibition at the Galleria Civica as a reflection about the energy of an ever-changing society.
In the exhibition two prizes have been awarded: the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo 10,000 dollar prize to one of the best works in the exhibition, won by the American artists Mark Dion and the Regione Piemonte 10,000 dollar prize for the best project, won by the German artist Tobias Rehberger.
The jury selected for Campo 6 is composed by five members: Bernhard Burgi (director of Kunsthalle), Dan Cameron (curator of the New Museum of New York), Kasper König (director of Frankfurt Städelschule), Charles Ray (artist) e Gianni Vattimo (philosopher).
